Medical Disclaimer

PEP Access Initiative Nigeria provides information and access services related to post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). This disclaimer explains the limits of the information and services provided through our website and communication channels.

In an emergency

If you believe you are having a medical emergency or a serious reaction to medication, go to the nearest hospital or emergency service straight away. PEP Access is not an emergency medical service.

No medical advice

The information provided through PEP Access, including content on the website, emails, messages, and other communications, is for general informational purposes only.

  • It is not intended as medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
  • It does not replace consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.
  • You should seek medical advice from a doctor or licensed healthcare provider where possible.

Information is not a personalised consultation

Reading our website or our general messages does not create a doctor-patient or provider-patient relationship, and that general information is not a personalised medical consultation.

Where a pharmacist reviews your eligibility and dispenses PEP, you are receiving a pharmacy service from a registered professional. None of this replaces seeing a doctor for a full assessment or for follow-up care.

Use of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP)

  • PEP is an emergency preventive measure intended to reduce the risk of HIV infection after a possible exposure.
  • PEP must be started within 72 hours of exposure, and it works best the sooner it is started. After 72 hours, PEP is no longer recommended.
  • Its effectiveness depends on timely initiation, correct use, and completing the full course.

PEP Access does not guarantee outcomes, effectiveness, or protection against HIV or any other condition.

Your responsibility

By using PEP Access, you acknowledge that:

  • You are responsible for decisions regarding your own health.
  • You understand the time-sensitive nature of PEP.
  • You will seek medical care when it is needed.
  • You will take PEP as directed, complete the full course, and attend your follow-up HIV tests.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for outcomes that result from delayed action, misuse, non-adherence, or reliance on the general information we provide.
  • We do not guarantee that PEP will prevent HIV infection, and outcomes can depend on factors outside our control.
  • Any liability we do have is limited to the services we provide in facilitating access to PEP.

Nothing in this disclaimer excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable Nigerian law, including our responsibilities as a pharmacy in dispensing medication.

Updates to this disclaimer

This medical disclaimer may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the website constitutes acceptance of any changes.
